About

Hello I’m Kirsty, the founder of SnoutAbout.

I am married to Mike who is a farmer and together we have four kids who are all very much part of the SnoutAbout set up. Joe my eldest who is 8, has shown the Pigs at the small holders festival at the Royal Highland centre and won young pig handler of the year award 2 years ago.

Meet Kirsty

I first fell in love with kunekune pigs when I was travelling in New Zealand in my early 20s and stayed with a family who ran a homestead and had a kunekune pig called Ginny who ate oranges that fell from the tree and enjoyed belly scratches.

It wasn’t until I was married and had children that I got my first two pigs, Pickles and Penelope from a lovely lady called Allison from Portlethem.

From piglets we have spent a great deal of time handling them and of course walking them around the farm premises and in the garden.

Porridge came along a year later from the same farm and slotted in nicely to make our piggie trio “the three little pigs” which is a theme which runs throughout Piggie Woods!

About the pigs

Our Pigs are part of the  British Kunekune Pig Society and therefore registered, which means they are pedigree pigs. The BKKPS society is all about pig welfare and promotes communication and cooperation between the pig owners and breeders of Kunekune pigs.

Kunekune pigs (pronounced “Cooney Cooney” which means fat and round in Māori) are a small breed which makes them easy to handle and the ideal pet. They have a very docile temperament and loving nature.
